October 2017: Spotlight on Success

Issaquah Schools Foundation

October 2017 - Spotlight on Success
Help us Invest in our Kids!
Go ALL IN for our All in for Kids Annual Campaign!

With your support, the Foundation invests in more than 40 programs throughout the District, serving the whole child. From STEM to Dedicated Fine Arts, from Healthy Youth Initiative (providing social and emotional support, breakfast bars, backpacks, and substance prevention) to Cultural Bridges (connecting students and families new to the US to our community), we can make a difference in the lives of our students.

One Foundation program making an impact on our kids is the Pre-K Summer School program, here is an amazing story about a child who is thriving now because of the program:
Last summer there was a student who refused to participate, he cried and cried most of every morning. His parents reported that he had
not attended preschool and had struggled in swimming lessons. His family did not speak English at home. The teachers and EAs created a safe learning environment for him and set clear guidelines for behavior. Gradually he understood the structure of school and he became more involved. At first he was only able to sit at the table with the other children without crying, but eventually he began to participate in the work. After the first week crying was rare. He was more often seen playing with the other children at recess and attempting the work of reading and writing. His screening assessment score steadily improved and carried over into kindergarten. Currently, he is a level 2 kindergarten English Language Learner who can identify letters, sounds and sight words, he has adapted to the structure of school and is learning to read. By attending Pre-K summer School this student came to kindergarten ready to learn!

Please go All In and continue to invest in our kids. YOU can create limitless possibilities for our kids so every student finds their own path to success. YOU can make a difference!
