Programs That Make a Difference
Food Aid at Beaver Lake Middle School
During the 2017-18 school year, the Foundation supported the food aid program at Beaver Lake Middle School. Thanks to generous donations from the community, the Foundation funded free, healthy breakfasts for students in need. Students arriving hungry in the morning were provided with options including oatmeal, high-protein breakfast bars and breakfast sandwiches.

Almost immediately, teachers reported that students in the program were more alert and engaged. One teacher shared the following:

"Before this intervention, students who were not provided with a meal before school were lethargic, distracted and agitated in class. Some of our students would leave class in search of sustenance in the counseling office or from their peers in other classes. This created disruptions to the learning process.... Within a few days, teachers and paraprofessionals were sharing that students who were served by the program had become more engaged with their peers and were no longer leaving their classes."

"An unplanned benefit of the program was that, before the school day began, it was noted that the students in the program had formed better relationships with other students within the program and were demonstrating positive social interactions which was not evident before."
Testing Scholarships Launch Students on College Journeys
Did you know that donations to the Foundation provide critical scholarships for students to take PSAT/AP/IB/CTE tests?

These individual scholarships launch 10th and 11th grade students on their college journeys by ensuring they have the opportunity to take pre-college board exams at their schools during the school day. AP and IB Scholarships ensure all students have the ability to take exams to test their knowledge of rigorous coursework and earn college credit.

During the 2017-18 school year, the Foundation provided a total of $7,000 in scholarships to students in need throughout the District. Issaquah High School alumni provided $2,000 to Issaquah High School students, and the Kiwanis Club of Issaquah also made a generous contribution of $2,000.

Thank you to all donors for making this program possible! In total, the Foundation provided scholarships for 71 students taking 136 different exams.
Highly Capable Funding Sparks Learning Adventures
Donations to the Foundation fund a host of learning experiences within the Highly Gifted program, including professional development and classroom enrichment. During the 2017-18 school year, funding from the Foundation helped teachers develop SAGE units. The result was a more math-focused and project-based exploratory unit that sparked student thinking. Here is a video the students made about dry ice exploration:
