Overview

Welcome to the High School Graduation Roadmap, a guide created to help parents understand what to expect from freshman to senior year as their student moves toward graduation. For many families—especially those unfamiliar with the U.S. public school system—the process can feel overwhelming. Beyond academics, there are important responsibilities, purchases, deadlines, and fundraising opportunities that begin long before senior year.

This roadmap provides a clear, year-by-year outline of the activities and preparations that help support a successful senior year celebration. From concession volunteering and class fundraisers to purchasing senior items, attending parent meetings, and understanding key deadlines, this guide is designed to help parents stay informed and avoid last-minute stress.

Participation in fundraising is always optional but can significantly reduce the cost of senior activities such as prom, senior trips, grad night, and graduation-related expenses. Starting early and staying connected makes a big difference.

This page will be updated regularly as new information becomes available to help answer parents’ questions and ease the planning process throughout all four years of high school.

9th Grade (Freshman Year)

Freshman year is all about getting oriented. While graduation may feel far away, this is the perfect time for parents to become familiar with the processes, timelines, and fundraising opportunities that will support the senior year experience.

Introduction to Fundraising & Concessions

Most of the Issaquah High schools begin fundraising as early as freshman year. Parents are encouraged to learn how concession volunteering works, as these shifts often raise money that goes toward senior activities. Participation is optional, but starting early can reduce future senior-year costs. Normally the concession fundraisers are run by either the school’s booster club or PTSA (Parent, Teacher and Student Association).
