Cultural Bridges is a Foundation run program that helps build relationships between families from diverse cultures and languages, their children, the ISD, and the broader Issaquah community through outreach, events, mentoring, translation services and a magazine published in 8 languages.
The Issaquah School District is becoming more and more culturally diverse. Based on demographic trends, Latino and Asian student populations have increased significantly over the past decade and the district is about 50% white students and 50% students of color.
Parents who are new to the country may not know how best to support their children's education. Through culturally sensitive support offered either in families' native language or in English, Cultural Bridges helps parents feel more confident becoming involved in school and supporting their students at home.
The Cultural Bridges program publishes a magazine that helps families navigate the Issaquah School District and the cities of Issaquah, Sammamish, Newcastle, Bellevue, and Renton. The magazine is currently offered in Arabic (عربى), Chinese (中文), English, Japanese (日本語), Korean (한국어), Russian (русский), Spanish (Español), and Vietnamese (Tiếng Việt).
Cultural Bridges also publishes an annual Family Guide to help all families learn more about the school system, better understand rules and procedures, and explore ways to become more involved.
