Even the brightest students can find themselves needing support along their educational journeys, and effective support can look different depending on a student’s needs. Issaquah Schools Foundation donors provide critical academic support from the moment students start school, helping to build strong academic foundations. As their educational journeys progress, Foundation funding is there to boost classroom learning and support struggling students with extra tutoring or tools that address unique learning styles.

“Everything changed when Math Club started. I felt so much more comfortable because it moved at my pace. Since it was a smaller group of kids, I didn’t feel embarrassed to ask questions. Math Club made me feel proud and confident to go to school every day.”

– Meredith, Newcastle Elementary 2nd Grader

Program Highlights

Issaquah Schools Foundation Academic Support funding is there for students at every ISD school and at every level, helping to ensure help is there whenever and wherever students need it.

  • Creative Curriculum Booster Kits for all preschool classrooms to engage ISD preschoolers in reading and social emotional learning.
  • Decodable take-home books provided to every Issaquah School District kindergarten and 1st grade student as a supplement to the new literacy curriculum, building strong phonics and literacy skills in our earliest learners.

“Providing students with take-home versions of decodable books that they have read in class with their teachers is a critical piece of the connection between home and school learning. Decodable texts are so important in students learning to read, but they are often difficult to find outside of schools. Giving families this tool will help them to help their students make strides in their journey to becoming proficient readers. We are so grateful to ISF for funding this project!”

– Anne Wertz, Literacy Implementation Specialist

  • Funding available to every elementary school to provide small group before or after school support to students falling just a little behind, helping them gain skills and confidence in Math and/or Reading.
  • After school homework labs at 5 ISD middle schools.
  • Innovative Peer Tutoring program at Issaquah Middle School, pairing IMS students with IHS students for homework support and mentoring.
  • After school homework and test support at our 3 comprehensive high schools.

“This year we had a 5th grade student who scored so low on the fall iReady math assessment that she was added to a 3rd grade ASAP math group from the start. At around the mid-point of the intervention, current iReady math data indicated that she had closed her achievement gap and we moved her to the 5th grade ASAP group. You should have seen the smile on her face when I shared with her that she would be changing ASAP math groups. We are so proud of her effort and growth.”

– Anne Miller, Cougar Ridge Elementary School

When students use after school library support, they are more likely to be successful in their classes because they have time to work on what they need to and receive assistance if they need it.”

– Mr. Dahlin, Maywood Middle School

This has been invaluable to struggling students…providing them an equitable opportunity for success. It is an awesome way to reach out to students who need a little more help without making them feel called out. I have found a higher success rate since beginning this tutoring funded by the Foundation.”

– Kristin Bennett, Skyline High School
