Feeding Student Success

Did you know that students in our schools are hungry? You can help.

More and more students in our school district struggle to get enough to eat because of economic hardship at home. One is seven families in the Issaquah School District will have difficulty feeding their family during the year. Children should not be hungry.

To meet our mission that all students reach the promise of their potential, we need to ensure all of our students have access to nutritious food as hungry children struggle to learn.

Because of your support to the Issaquah Schools Foundation, we started addressing the hunger issues in the schools through a pilot breakfast programs available to all kids. This year, so far, we have served more than 1,040 kids who need breakfast, a 27 percent increase over last year. Participation in this program is steadily growing.  Also, with your support, we’re able to offer snacks of breakfast bars for hungry kids in all schools. Last year, we distributed 4,560 breakfast bars and this year we’re seeing an 86 percent increase in the request for bars from several schools across the district.

We know there’s more to be done, and that’s why we are launching Feeding Student Success – a program to combat hunger in our schools. This program brings together what we are doing for breakfast and snacks and adds support for school lunches to the effort. We have more than 125 students each day who are not eating. We will raise $22,000 to provide nutritious meals for these students for the rest of the school year.  Will you help?
