Seven Schools Receive Kateri Brow Grants
The Foundation recently awarded its prestigious Kateri Brow Big Idea Grants for programs that reflect vision and innovation in education, and respond to a compelling need.

The 2018 grant recipients included programs at Discovery and Maple Hills elementary schools; Maywood Middle School; Echo Glen School; and Liberty, Skyline and Gibson Ek high schools. Named for a past superintendent of the Issaquah School District, the grants are up to $10,000.

Grant recipients ranged from after-school math clubs and a horticulture program, to CS/STEM explorations and the expansion of the Patriot Café program. For example, grants included the purchase of ripple tanks for physics classes. The tanks are a fundamental tool for studying two-dimensional wave behavior, which is otherwise difficult to investigate interactively. The number of students taking physics at all levels has increased year after year in the District, resulting in the need for more tanks. Learn more about these inspiring programs HERE.

Programs That Make a Difference
Skyline Robotics Wins World Championship

Kudos to the Skyline High School Spartabots on winning the FIRST Robotics 2018 World Championship in Houston! The Foundation is proud to support robotics programs at Skyline and in schools across the District. Go Spartabots!

"The dedication and drive of my teammates is truly awe-inspiring. We've learned how to problem solve under pressure and have grown into stronger engineers and leaders. For me, every second I have spent in our build room, on a practice field and at competition was well worth it, not because of the win but because of the priceless experience, immense knowledge and lifelong connections I've gained." - Jasmine, Skyline High School Robotics Team Member
Volunteers in Action: Elementary Art Education

Creativity is blooming in elementary schools thanks to PTSA volunteers! Did you know that art education in our elementary schools is solely funded by PTSAs, with volunteer instructor training provided by the Foundation's Artistic Support Program? This year, more than 550 volunteer art docents taught four to eight art lessons, providing 8,500 hours of classroom instruction. Learn more about our dedicated art docents HERE.
Issaquah High Wins State Sports Medicine Championship

Congratulations to the Issaquah High School Sports Medicine Team on winning the 2018 State Championship! More than 900 students from 50 schools competed at the Washington Career and Technical Sports Medicine Association (WCTSMA) competition in categories such as medical terms, exercise physiology, and emergency responders. Thanks to donors like you, the Foundation supported the team's success with a STEM grant, which helped fund this incredible opportunity. Read more about the team HERE.

"I could not be more proud of this group. They worked incredibly hard all year dedicating hundreds of hours individually towards giving their own personal best to this competition." - Todd Parsons ATC, AT/L, Issaquah High School Sports Medicine Instructor
Cultural Bridges Helps Families Navigate School System
