Cultural Bridges is a Foundation program that helps build relationships between families from diverse cultures and languages, their children, the Issaquah School District, and the broader community through outreach, events, mentoring, translation services, and a magazine printed in six languages.

Dynamic Seating Pilot Program at Endeavour Elementary
Issaquah Schools Foundation's Kateri Brow Grants fund programs responding to a compelling need that reflects innovation in education. At Endeavour Elementary, the Foundation recently funded a Dynamic Seating Pilot Program. This grant funded dynamic seating options (wobble chairs, stand up desks and bike pedal exercisers) that help children with attentiveness and academic issues address their sensory needs, thus decreasing student behavioral problems and ultimately increasing overall student performance.
With funding from the Kateri Brow Grant, Endeavour purchased four stand up desks, 24 wobble chairs, and two desk cycles that were tested by more than 680 students. In a pilot classroom, students used desk cycles, stand up desks and wobble chairs, while dynamic seating was used in resource rooms, classrooms and occupational therapy sessions. Students rotated between options to optimize their learning.
The response from students was overwhelmingly positive. Teachers reported that students were more engaged, able to stay focused and apt to retain information. Students were also more enthusiastic and excited about learning. The majority of students reported that when using dynamic seating, they finished more of their work, focused better, and produced a higher quality of work.

Biodiversity Project Inspires Science Exploration

The Foundation's Mountains to Sound Greenway Biodiversity Project is making an impact for 9th grade pre-biology students from Liberty and Skyline high schools, giving them access to hands-on learning in the classroom and in the field.
The project supports students who have generally not shown enthusiasm for science for a variety of reasons, including a lack of success in previous science classes. It includes in-class days with a Mountains to Sound Greenway educator and a field trip to Lake Sammamish State Park that engages students in a field study at a natural space that many did not realize was close to their homes. Students study the health of the space and then take ownership of it with a restoration project, which improves their perception of local natural areas.

What is Dining for Kids? When you dine at a participating restaurant on the first Wednesday of the month, the restaurant will donate a portion of the day's proceeds to Feeding Student Success.
What is Feeding Student Success? It's a Foundation program that provides food aid to Issaquah School District students. During the 2017-18 school year, Feeding Student Success provided more than 17,000 free breakfasts, snacks and lunches to students in need.

Thank you to Ivar's Issaquah for hosting an incredible fundraiser for the Foundation! During this pre-opening event for the new Issaquah restaurant, Ivar's donated $9,627 worth of free meals to more than 700 guests.
This incredible generosity inspired our community to respond with more than $5,000 in donations to the Foundation and welcomed 30 new donor families to the Foundation.
